Choosing Santorini Hotels

The good news for those who are spending time on the island is that there are plenty of Santorini hotels to choose from. Tourist hot spots such as Oia and the capital town of Fira (or Thira) have a large number of hotels and these are all very busy during the summer months as the holiday makers flock to the island. The village of Imerovigli also has a large number of accommodation options to choose from. And for the beach lovers, there are many hotels in Kamari and Perissa beaches built right on the beachfront.

Santorini hotels come in all shapes and sizes. The smaller hotels are ideal for those who want a relaxing and tranquil time. These do not often have the amenities of larger hotels but are very warm and welcoming. Most hotels will offer a bar, restaurant and swimming pool at the very least. Some of the beachfront properties do not have pools, but with the sea just a few yards away this is not normally a worry.

Strogili Hotel Apartments & Studios Santorini, Oia
If you are interested to stay in Oia Santorini, then the Strogili Hotel Apartments and Studios is a perfect choice. This traditional houses complex is built on the cliffs of the caldera, at an altitude of 350 meters and offers a large swimming pool and elegant decorated apartments and studios each with its own veranda and fantastic sea views to the volcano, the Aegean Sea and the famous Oia sunset. Rightfully it is considered as one of the best Oia Santorini hotels.

Self-catering accommodation is a popular choice for those visiting the Greek islands. The apartment or studio option is usually ideal for a couple or small family as this tends to be a large room with a living/sleeping area, kitchen section and separate bathroom. This is ideal for tourists who want to create their own timetable or who want the freedom to eat where they like, when they like.

Larger hotels may offer more in the way of activities. They may have spa facilities, gymnasiums or tennis courts. They are also more likely to be able to arrange excursions for their guests. Popular excursions around the island include visiting the capital of Fira, the ancient ruins of Akrotiri and taking boat trips out to get closer to the volcano and the smaller islands which sit just off the coast of the main Santorini island.

Those who are staying in Santorini hotels have a choice of residential options for their stay. Some holiday packages offer bed and breakfast accommodation, with lunches and dinners charged for separately if taken at the hotel. Others offer a half board option, which is usually breakfast and evening meal. This is ideal for those who intend to spend most of their time out of the hotel. Others offer full board which covers all meals. All-inclusive packages may be an option at some hotels so this includes snacks and drinks as well as all meals.

Activities which are available to those staying in Santorini hotels include water sports. There are many parts of the coastline which are ideal for swimming and snorkeling thanks to the clear waters which are often very calm. Those who want to try scuba diving can take lessons and there are some great dive sites just off the coast for those who have done this before. Some beaches offer great surfing and there are always opportunities to go sailing.

No matter which Santorini hotels catch your eye you can always be sure of one thing. The Greek people are warm and welcoming and will do everything that they can to make your stay a pleasant one. They will be happy to point you in the right direction for choosing the right restaurants, bars and activities for you and your family.
