Santorini Hotels & Travel Tips

When staying in Santorini hotels it is important to make sure that you select the right one for you and your needs. A hotel close to all the bars may not be as quiet in the evening as some tourists would like so those who prefer more tranquility will be better off with a hotel in one of the smaller towns and villages. Those who are travelling with children may prefer a hotel close to the beach or one that has amenities such as children’s clubs or swimming pools to help to keep them occupied throughout the stay.

Oia Santorini
Oia Santorini hotels are popular because of their location. Oia village is located on the north-western part of the island. The proximity to plenty of bars and shops is one of the main reasons for staying in Oia, but the town’s location means that no matter where you are you can enjoy the amazing views of the caldera and the world famous sunset. Oia is a place which attracts those that have more cash to splash so these Santorini hotels tend to be at the luxury end of the market and the target clientele is usually honeymooners and others who want a romantic break.

The island’s capital of Fira and Oia village have plenty of hotels of all shapes and sizes. There are few options in the budget range but those who are looking for a little more luxury will be spoiled for choice. Prices tend to be much higher in Fira and Oia at peak holiday time so it may be worth considering a visit before June and after August. The weather is still excellent and the facilities are all still open, but it is easier to save a few Euros on accommodation. Those who do choose to visit at peak time should not rely on being able to get accommodation at the last minutes. Advance bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.

Staying in a hotel in Oia, in Fira or in Imerovigli, is perhaps not the best choice for families with little kids, but the resort of Kamari and Perissa (on the eastern part of the island) may be perfect. As well as low-cost accommodation, Kamari and Perissa beach is geared up for tourists with plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. In addition the beach is great for those who want to spend some time relaxing in the sun.

For a more peaceful location, the small village of Imerovigli is just a short journey to the south from Oia and there are plenty of quiet and value for money hotels. Many people come to the island for the opportunity to relax and return home rejuvenated and ready to face the world of work again. With this in mind there are a number of Imerovigli hotels in Santorini where guests can enjoy spa treatments.

There are several budget options in the range of Santorini hotels. Those who are backpacking and who need to save money on accommodation can look at the youth hostels which can be found around Perissa and there are also campsites at various points on the island. These are perfect for those who do not mind very basic accommodation. Even the cheapest accommodation on the island still comes with the warm welcome for which the Greeks are famous.
